Ok so heres the deal.
I was about to install SP2 when I noticed that my main Windows drive didnt have enough space, so I figured what the hell, I'll resize C: and give it another gig and that should just about do it. Anyway, I ran partition magic and resized the partition accordingly.... in windows...
Upon completion, I rebooted and got a hang up on the dreaded "Verifying VMI pool data". I then decided to restore my MBR through a WIN ME diskette, to my own stupidity, like if using partition magic wasnt dumb enough... anyway, I have tried putting this HD in another computer in the secondary master and that system wont even boot with my HD in it now.. I have tried running the XP PRO 6 disk set to try to recover the MBR in that way, but after I get past disk 6 it hangs.
So, basically I would REALLY like to find a resolution to this so that I can get my information back on that HD, or atleast be able to format it. As of now I've tried just about everything and I just cant figure it out.. Please, any suggestions are very much appreciated.
Thanks.

Try this for system repair after rplacing the hd in the original machine. Boot from the xp cd and go past the recovery console to the install menu. Select repair the existing installation. You won't lose any data except the xp updates. Unless you have a slipstream sp1 cd you will have to d/l sp1 and all subsequent updates. Be sure the firewall and A/V is active before going online as you will be susceptible to sasser and msblaster. If you don't want SP2 go to autopatcher.com and d/l SP1 and subsequent updates.

Did you create PM's rescue disks - so you can run PM from dos? (may be able to recover situation from there) - you can create rescue disks on another machine.

I don't use partition magic so I couldn't give you detail in that direction. But I do use BOOTITNG partitioner. It has a feature that will allow you to manually adjust and correct the MBR. So if you have access to the original MBR, you can compare and rewrite the errors yourself.
Like I said I don't use partition magic but bare in mind that there are a lot of different partitioners that can be used and thay all have a different way of looking at a problem. So if your P.M. cannot correct the situation then try another one.

Put the hd back in the original machine. You can't move windows usually.
Get Knoppix and see if you can view the partiton. If not then you need to decide from there which way to go. Either try to correct the geometry or restore.

@Rayok - Thanks, I will burn that EBCD and try it whenever I get the chance.
@per - Isnt booting from the floppy disks basically the same thing as booting from the CD? My CD isnt bootable, and like I said I hang after the last disk and it just sits there at Please Wait...
@Steve - Yes I created the PM boot disks, actually I had found a solution, but when I boot with the disks it says that Disk manager is there but not running, and then it says it cannot initialize the engine and it boots me back out into DOS where I have no CD-ROM support and it doesnt even see any of my drives.
@door - Ok cool, I will try another partitioner as soon as I get the chance.
@Jefro - Thanks, I'll try Knoppix too and see if that does anything for me.

@Jefro - Could you tell me which components I need to install from the knoppix website? I wasnt sure which .iso I needed to DL. By the way, I couldnt tell from the desciption if it was just Linux, OR Linux software AND recovery software, etc. Thanks.

You don't install anything. Knoppix runs from the CD and should NOT load anything to your hard drive. You don't need to be able to write to the hard drive. All you want to see is if you can read from it. Knoppix will boot from the CD if bios is set to boot cd before hd. When it comes up the desktop ought to have your hard drive partition on it. See if you can access it.
If you can then you can move the files. If not then you could either find out how to correct the geometry which is sort of complex.
As above all are good ideas I think. Just kind of hard to guess these things far away.
