Beta software is software that is still in testing, but has had the majority of the serious bugs worked out.

Medion MIM 2080
Toshiba T2130CT
Macintosh Performa 450

All working wonderfully.

Software usually goes thru several testing phases...alpha, beta, RC (release candidate), RTM (release to market).
