I am having some peculiar problems in XP and want to reinstall it. It is on a dual boot system with Windows 98.
I tried reinstalling over the top of the existing XP installation but that did not seem to help so now it looks like I will have to remove XP and reinstall.
Is this a good idea or is there a better way that I have not thought of yet?
My idea is to reformat the c: drive to get XP off of there and restore a "Ghost" image that I made after the last clean installation a few months ago. This will mean having to reinstall and update some software but I don't see an alternative right now.

If the reinstall on top didn't help, it would seem that restoring the Ghost Image would be the next best way to go.

FORMATTING
While running your current version of XP , insert the XP CD in the drive. When the
setup menu appears, select "New Installation" (clean install) from the pull-down menu.
Also, select
"Advanced" and place checkmarks in the two boxes.2. Next, your computer will start copying files and then reboot. At this point, select
the same drive/partition that Windows XP is currently installed on. Select the
option to "format" this partition using either FAT32 or NTFS.3. After the drive/partition is formatted, XP will begin the setup process and install
"clean".4. After registering and activating XP, be sure to run a "Defrag".
I would also save the old"BOOT.INI" file as this destroys the dual boot.

obtain any special XP drivers.
