Hello.
Which spyware/adware removal program would be considered the best in terms of size and effectiveness? A program that would find all spyware within temporary Internet files and computer registry.
Thank you.

Try Ad Aware (from LavaSoft). Download it for free at download.com.

Well, none of them will do a perfect job. Spybot and AdAware are generally considered to be the best. And, while AV programs are not specifically designed to find spyware and adware, sometimes they do. So, if you don't have a good one, get one. Essential. Spyware Blaster is a good program to keep this stuff out of your machine in the first place, but it's not designed to clean.

CWShredder is another useful program, especially for specific tasks like hijacking.

I have heard some criticism of Spyware Sweeper and for that reason have steered clear of it.

All of the above are free except some AV programs like Norton and McAfee. You can use certain online AV programs such as Trendmicro's House Call and that's free.

While I'm at it, a good popup blocker is useful. The Google Toolbar, free, is very good at this. And disable Messenger in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Scroll down to Messenger, go to properties and set to disable.

Others will have other opinions.

I always install the combination of 'Adaware' and 'Spybot', to check occasionally, together with 'Spywareblaster' which sits in the background permanently monitoring for nasties. Together with a decent pop-up stopper, either the XP one, or Google Toolbar, I haven't had any comebacks yet.

salgolf beat me to it, but it's nice to see we basically agree. Also you can get good, free AV packages - 'AntiVir' (which you just download & install/update) or 'AVG' (which requires e-mail registration for a download/activation link).
