I've started downloading a couple of movies, and I was wondering, what is the best player for .avi files? I have DivX 2.5.3, but it installed a bunch of GAIN adware with it which I have to keep in order to run DivX. Is GDivX any good and can it play incomplete .avi's?

I would go for DivX Player 2.5.3 or Mediaplayer Classic. DivX Player 2.5.3 is the best version that has been released in my opinion and make sure you play with the "Playback Quality" option. It's under Preferences and VIDEO.

I find some videos play smoother on Divx Player 2.5.3 on my 400mhz then other players. But that depends what system you have, switch back and forth beween those two and choose which one works best for you.
