I have 5 slots in my Gigabyte mobo and i've just bought a sound card,i remember reading somewhere its better putting certain cards in certain slots,only slot i've use so far is for Ethernet card in no.4, anyone help?

You should put a card in one slot, leave the next empty, and put another card in the next slot. By doing that, there will be a good air circluation inside your system.

I found the site you are talking about. It said that not all PCI slots are equal...and that the slot nearest the AGP slot might have special priority (although I probably wouldn't do that since the video card can get hot). Since you might get sound crackling if the sound card doesn't get enough priority in a different slot, you should try each slot and play music until it's clear. I prefer to alternate pci slots for heat reasons. I would probably put it in slot 2, or maybe slot 3 (and moving ethernet card into slot 5)
