I'm interested in other users' votes on the best all-around browser to use, among IE, Netscape, Mozilla (or its relative, Phoenix), Crazy Browser, Opera, or ......, taking into consideration not only ease of use but also security and built-in ad blockers. Thanks.

I like to use IE there are little advertisments and microsoft supports this product by patches and security updates every so often. I don't really care for the free Opera there are to many flashing advertisments at the top of the explorer( the guy I work with swears it is the fastest ever). I also like Netscape easy browsing and instead of secutriy updates like IE has they just supply a new version. If you want an ad blocker there are several freeware products out there. "Ad-aware v5.83" is a wonderfull tool to remove spyware that different sites put on your pc.

Mozilla: version 1.1 get's my vote! Tabbed browsing, plus pop-up blocking, plus ad/image blocking with "BannerBlind" plugin
Netscape: stay away from verion 4.x The new versions use the same technology as Mozilla but is less customizable
Phoenix: nice but does not support the BannerBlind plugin
IE: still need for properly rendering certain microsoft webpages, and for manually running "Windows Update"
CrazyBrowser: uses the IE engine (which seems faster than Mozilla) but I *hate* the way it handles tabs
Opera: not freeware, so I haven't tried it
SUMMARY: I've gotten used to the features/plugins available with Mozilla 1.1
I'll let the experts address security :-)

I prefer Netscape myself , i have the 4.79 and havent changed from that i never found the 6.0 or higher was any good , IE is Ok but I will stick with netscape user friendly i say , but I have never tried any other :)

I've been using IE since the days it came about and have never let it for the simple fact that I like it. I never liked to the look and feel of Netscape, I tried Opera when it first came out and I thought it was clumsy. Yes, they say that IE is full of security holes, well if you learn how to protect yourself and install bug fixes when they come along you will not have any issues. None of the so called "security holes" have ever had any impact on my surfing habits nor has it caused me to be hacked, etc.
Bottom line is you have to use what you like, not what the majority like. For every person that loves IE there will be 3 or 4 that hate it and vice versa.
KTTD

If you go with IE,I think 5.5 is the best.Crazy Browser is better yet.I like the speed and the pop-up control. To me it's just easier to set up.Opera is the fastest IMO.Opera is easy to set up also and is the fastest browser that I have had.The only annoyance with Opera is the way it doesn't function the best on some web-sites.With Crazy Browser every site works well.Security concerns with IE?I thought it was a huge issue, until I found some nice security programs to make it more secure.(Browser Hijack Blaster for one example).Regards.JB
