Looks like I am going to have to do a complete reinstall due to many infections. I have xp home sp1 now and have no desire for sp3. I would like to download sp2 to cd and install afterwards. Can this be done? And if so where would be the best place to download from? I searched and found so many but don't know which is best.

I prefer this. It gives the option of what updates you want to install.

JPW that was one of the links that I found. Also this one: http://download.microsoft.com/downl... . I have high speed so the size isn't a concern. Per, I still have my download of autopatcher from a few months ago. I would think it would be good enough to get started with.

After you download SP2 or SP3, you should make the effort to slipstream it into your Win XP sp1 disk.

I use nLite to do this, and it is very easy to use. Get it from here...

My xp is an oem edition. Not sure if slipstreaming is practicle in this situation. I did a complete reinstall on this machine a few months ago, so all should go well. To clarify, it is my home computer that is the subject.

I have slipstreamed Dells home and pro oems and Hp's home and pro oems with no problems.

The program nlite is free and sp2 as well so your risk at burning a coaster is the cost of 1 cd......

If not, at least save sp2 to a cd for future use.
