What's the best computer currently on the market? I mean, what's the highest processor speed I can get, most RAM, most HD space, and all the other specs that are central to running a computer at optimal efficiency?

The Fastest Computer in the world

Of course any discussion on which is the best is pointless with bringing cost into it.

Best computer for doing what?
If you do not say what are going to use it for it pointless to venture an answer.

The term "best computer" is an oxymoron because it can greatly vary depending on circumstantial constraints like timing, budget, type of system, what use it's going to be put and who is building the system.

If someone has a gun to your head and puts the money in your pocket, a system like the Area-51 ALX from Dell.......cough........Alienware will most likely secure your safety.

Other than that, the above is nothing but mindless profligacy.

Okay, let me rephrase the question. What is the fastest processor speed on the marketing today.

You are still not qualifying your question - the best processor for what purpose? For the sake of argument I will assume you are talking about a consumer level system

In that case the "best" processor right now is the Intel Core Duo Extreme 6800.

For memory, the most you can put in most consumer level motherboards is 4GB. But, unless you are going to use a 64bit operating system, anything over 2GB can be a waste - and can be buggy if not properly configured.

For hard drives, the biggest (and nearly the fastest) is the 750GB Seagate drive. I think the raptor drives are marginally faster, but top out at 300bg.

Other considerations are video cards. For the absolute best performance you would want a qual-SLI setup. However, the last I read, those cards are only available when buying complete system.

then, of course, you will need a very robust power supply & optical drive(s). Then you can complete it all with a nice 15" CRT monitor. Should get great FPS.

Thanks. That's exactly the information I was looking for. Sorry I didn't specify a purpose. I need a computer that can handle large 3D models (with lots of detail) for AutoCAD 2006 and Adobe Creative Suite 2 Standard. But before I make a decision on what computer would be best for this purpose, I just wanted to know what's the "best" out there - and I don't mind getting the specs on a best-per-component basis (like best processor, most RAM, etc.). After getting this information, THEN I'd be interested in knowing what the trade-offs are for specific purposes. Money is not an issue. If we have to spend $10,000 and go half way across the world to get it, that's fine. Right now, I just want to know what's the ceiling on specs like these globally.
