I was just curious if I could get some opinions about Anti virus? What is the best Anti virus? I been running Mcafee, but recently got a virus from a friend that was undetected and have heard bad things about Mcafee? I would need a security suite that would also have a firewall. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

As mentioned by itguru AVG is an excellent antivirus, i myself have he free version but my friend has the full paid for versio nand it protects his computer in realtime. infections are detected and removed before they have a change to infect the pc.

In terms of a firewall i would recommened ZoneAlarm pro, i dont really like the free version much. its simple and easy to use with a very good interface and not too complicated.

Comodo is another excellent firewall though im not a fan of this one as it is kinda complicated.

No one antivirus is going to protect you fully so its usually recommended you get some antispyware and anti malware too.

heres a list

spybot serach & destroy 1.6 (NEW)

SUPERAntispyware

Lavasoft adaware 2007 free

CW Shredder standalone

ATF Cleaner

Malwarebytes

Stay away from the suites. Norton and McAfee and Computer Associates are too intrusive...

I don't reccomend any software firewalls at all....buy a nice router with a built in hardware firewall as your first line of defense...It is before the system and thus not intrusive upon your computer....but if you still feel that you must have one then look into Comodo....zone alarm has too many issues with legacy devices and some software as well.

The list above is pretty good for the malware/spyware protection except that he left out
spywareblaster

and
CrapCleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com/

AVG (free) for the antivirus is ok but I prefer Avir Personal
http://www.free-av.com/en/products/...

All the suites do is basically offer a few more programs and auto updating. By going the free versions listed you can have the same protection and save yourself some cash by updating the programs regularly....note...some programs are auto updating to begin with such as the anti-virus programs and Ccleaner...to get the auto up dating on the others would require paying for it...

I use Avast free edition but if you wish to pay for it then Kaspersky Security Suite 2009 is just out & seems to get good reviews http://www.pcpro.co.uk/security/rev...

I use NOD32 by ESET. Not a resource hog and well rated.

Free AVG is good.
I like a software firewall like ZoneAlarm because it monitors outgoing traffic as well as incoming. It allows you to select who can access the LAN or Internet.

I have AVG 8 and the firewall running on a DSL hookup. I've been running AVG for more than three years now and have nver had a virus get through. Tried Norton and McAfee previously. Both were bloated and caused numerous crashes. AVG is rock solid and has never caused a crash. AVG also has quick and outstanding tech support.

Well everyone will have his own opinion regarding use of antivirus/antispyware. One would say this one is good, while others would say that one.....and this will go on. I would recommend using "ThreatFire" along with Avira Security Suit or ESET Smart Security. Try this, hpoefully user would like the result. Comments are welcom at monsoon580@yahoo.com.
