hi, is there a benefit to partitioning a drive? i currently have a 120gb hard drive, if that information is needed. and will it speed up the computer in any way like boot time, etc?

It will not speed up the system but using a small partition for the OS and putting all your data and programs on another partition has several significant advantages.

I agree with ham30. Putting everything in one large partition is like putting all you egss in one basket. Spread them out a bit.

I agree with Ham30 here. I do audio recording on one of my computers.
I have WinXP, recording software and all other programs on a 20 Gig hard drive, which is more than enough room since I have 16 Gig spare space on that hard drive. The second 40 Gig hard drive is partitioned into 3 drives. I keep all my Music files on one partition and other types of files on the other partitions.
I recently upgraded from Win 98SE to XP and I just formatted the C drive and installed XP and all my recording software and all my old files, songs etc. were left intact on other partitions.
