While playing games my sons pc keeps intermitently beeping...(not internal..but via speakers) he has his games (such as unreal tourney) set up so the directional arrows are used for movement...not sure if it's when a combination of the direction arrows are pressed or what..but it definately seems related to pressing the arrows...
I've done what I could think of..ie...gone into accessibility options & unchecked EVERYTHING under keyboard tab..ie..sticky keys etc...(did this anyway to stop that annoying notice popping up when pressing shift too long)...anyway, did the same thing on my pc & I've never had the same prob..
or could it be physical keyboard related? (cheapish logitech)
Not posted this in the hardware forum in case it's an xp setting issue..
If anyone's had this prob & cured it would appreciate feedback..Cheers..Andy.
Sons pc...xp home sp2/ mobo abit kn9 sli

This problem can occur if too many keys are pressed at the same time/simultaneously.
I believe (but I could be wrong on this) that this is dependant on the quality of the keyboard and sometimes on the hardware itself (mainboard).
It might be an idea to swap keyboards between the PC's and see if you can replicate the behaviour, also check how many keys your son is pressing at any one time (I don't think it should exceed 3 at any single point).

You have to go into Control Panel | Sounds and audio Devices.
Go to the Sounds tab, scroll down the list, set Default Beep to None, and save it as Custom.

Pc brand new Dragonslayer....doubt very much it's overheating in the short period it's turned on for anyway..case is also well ventilated...(also unreal tourney/medal of honour..oldish games & not very taxing on an athlon64 3800..nvidia 7900gs.)...tnx for the input tho..
Zenith I've never had to do that on any other pc & the prob has never happened till now...never know tho...may help as a last resort...tnx also for input...
DJH...he's played the same game on other pc's without any prob so will rule out key depresses etc..(I also play the same game no probs...but then I also get the beeps on his pc)..mobo is decent enough in my opinion so I'll narrow it down to possibly the keyboard..will give swapping it a try..if that fails..will give Zeniths idea a go :¬)..cheers DJH.
Tnx for the advice all..appreciated!
Oh & Chrisman...mobile phones are a sore point at the moment...bought the wife one for xmas only for her to drop it down the toilet very recently!!....(& the pc still beeps :¬( )

I'd go with DJHs' "keyboard swapping" too
Oh & about your celly getting wet, you might be able to save it

thanks for the link Override...unfortunately the wife had already tried to see if it still worked while wet & fried it it seems. New phone now but that link is handy (what a waste of alcohol tho :¬) )
Back to the beeping....shoved an old Olivetti keyboard in & the beeping has stopped after a good trial run so yep it does seem to be keyboard related..
Problem cured....thanks everyone for the time & suggestions! Andy.
