On my acer aspire 5102, an indicator used to display the sound level by a series of bars, from none to (approx) 12 bars corresponding to the sound level. Since some recent Windows automatic updates, the indicator no longer appears. Can you tell me how to get the indicator back?
Any advice you can offer would be sincerely appreciated.

Just to clarify, you are pressing the volumne +/- button on your laptop and these bars will appear somewhere on your screen?
If that is the case, this is not a part of “Windows.” You might want to check your sound card and see if the drivers are up to date. Or, more simply, it might be a setting in the sound card properties that needs to be checked or unchecked.
