Hi, i just put xp on my compaq presario 1235 laptop, and the battery meter will not show up, it only shows up as ON AC POWER, no matter what. It does beep when the battery is getting low. I have it set up as LAPTOP/PORTABLE but still, no battery icon in the systray. Any ideas where it went?

Ok on the screen saver window is a button to get to power setting for drives and such. On the advanced tab the first selection is to show the power icon in the tray. After doing that unplug the power pack and see if the icon switches to the battery.
