Just wondering if anyone knew a way to get a batch file to start at system startup without putting it or a shortcut to it in the start up folder?

Add it to the startup list that appears in msconfig - you need to use regedit to add this. (If you haven't heard of regedit before I suggest you learn how to use it properly before messing around)
