GUYS,
First of all let me thank you for taking the time to try to help me.
I have tried the following:
housecall scan, the trendmicro site will not allow me to do a scan. i download the files it tells me to and when i try to install them it wont let me.

The panda site also gives me an error msg when i try to complete a scan.

I have rebooted the comp. in safe mode and run trojan hunter, which found and cleaned 2 trojans, however will not let me access the internet in safe mode to get updates. Is this normal??

norton is still only scanning for a minute or so then coming up with system error. even in safemode.

i also dont know how to turn system restore off.
I know there is a lot of problems here, but any further help is greatly appreciated,

Rory

for one, in safe mode you will not be able to update norton, you won't have access to the internet to do this
for two, did you search for 'hosts' file and check to see if the file has been modified?
for three, do you have another antivirus solution on your machine besides norton, because if so, it will f--- up your computer to no end, if you do, remove all antivirus programs besides norton, then uninstall and reinstall norton, at that point update it in NORMAL mode, boot into safe mode and then see if you can do a full system scan....

set the search under advanced options to search hidden and system

You could try to post the prosesses running on you computer here. We could all read much out of the prosesses. Maybe the virus turn up? I dont know, but i do know that all the viruses i have had except two had a prosess running.

Ps, One of those was a BIOS virus wich made my computer to reboot before i came to "booting cd". Thats like 10 seconds.

The other is that F*ck**g Norton virus i had.

When i get one like that, I remove the hd, and hook it up as a second drive on another pc. Then I use that pc's av software to scan the hd. Works like a charm.
