I just put together a new computer that I am trying to use to record some old cassettes to cd which i've been doing on my old cpu using the program goldwave v.4.26, and am having problems with constant hard drive activity while doing so, which is leading to clicks in the audio that ruin the sound file. Even when I just open a new sound file and record nothing on it there are still clicks all over the sound wave once I save the file. I have downloaded the latest drivers for both my video and sound cards and shut down all background programs and screensaver while recording but still nothing has helped. Somebody told me that the constant hard drive activity could be a sign of a bad stick of RAM but I have no system crashes or error messages, just a lot of activity, here is a list of my cpu's components if anybody has any ideas please let me know.
My computer components:

Intel 2.4 Ghz Pentium 4 chip/ ECS motherboard 533mhz front side bus/ 512K cache
80 Gb IBM Deskstar 120GXP Hard Drive 7200 Rpm (74Gb free storage while recording)
Windows XP Professional Edition w/ Microsoft Plus
1024 Mb DDR SD Ram (Reads on cpu as 1048 Mb, over 880mb free while recording)
Creative Audigy 2 Soundcard
Geforce 4 Ti 4200 Video Card 128Mb
Yamaha 44/24/44 Cdrw Internal Drive
Toshiba 16 x Dvd Internal Drive
Iomega Zip 250mb Internal Drive
Sony 3.5" Floppy Internal Drive
Samsung 171V 17" Flat Panel Monitor
Logitech Cordless Keyboard & Mouse
Anything else you may need to know just ask.

Well the best thing to do, is ctr slt delete, and see under processes what is running, from there you can aslo see which of these processes is pulling from the cpu.

I checked the processes and the only two things running while recording were the System Idle and Goldwave and the total cpu usage is at about 2%, for some reason today I somehow fixed the hard drive activity and it now flashes only once every 30 seconds to 2 minutes while recording, the clicks only seem to be coming in the audio when I save, when I switched my hard drive from DMA to PIO the clicks didn't appear but it takes too long (about 5 minutes to save in PIO compared to 5-10 seconds in DMA on a 54 minute .wav sound file), I have tried some other software CoolEditPro2.0 to record with but the clicks came in there too, I can't figure this out, any suggestions?
