Comment:

I just started having an issue with my laptop. I currently have it connected to my 22" CRT monitor because the motherboard on my desktop went out so I am using the laptop as my primary computer. Everything worked great for a week or so but the other day the laptop stopped displaying the color red on the monitor. The laptops built in monitor looks fine and the monitor I had it hooked up to looks fine when hooked up to another computer so I know it is a problem with the laptop. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Everything looks terrible and its really annoying.

have you tried toning down the screen resolution to something like 800x600 and perhaps 16 colors to see if that makes a difference.

could very well be something wrong with the laptops vga interface. Use a different crt monitor to test that. Same results would indicate a bad port.

Do make sure you are using a known good vga cable.

Abstinence training clearly isn't working.

Check the cable connection then. If the monitor shows good elsewhere and the integrated display on the laptop is fine the only thing left is either monitor adjustment or the cable.

Check the connector on the end of the monitor cable for bent pins - you may need to look at it from several directions, and use a magnifying glass.
Fasten the monitor's connector into the posts on either side of the port on the laptop, if you haven't been doing that - that may allow the pins to go into the port farther.
It's unlikely there's anything wrong with the video port on the laptop unless it's been used a lot.
