hi, My laptop (Acer TravelMate, Window XP) crashed and I re-formatted the entire HDD. However, I guess there were some physical damages on my HDD since the system began to lag whenever I tried to install new software and there were some scary, dragging noises from my HD. I am wondering if there's hope to save my HDD by using software like FBDISK to seperate the bad clusters or should I just replace it with a new HDD? Thanks for the help,

Doubt bad sectors make noise. Noise from the HDD means it is likely to go bad. Mechanical devices do go bad.
Mostly on Desktop computers---- DUST collects inside computers, and can cause hardware damage, overheating, faulty fans, faulty drives Is yours clean.???? http://www.makeitsimple.com/project... ^^^ Some pictures ^^^

You should identify the manufacturer of the drive and then download/run their diagnostics from the manufacturers web site.
