I have a new 80gb hard drive that I want to install in an old HP Pavillion with a Pentium II processor, 384mb Ram. I need to know how to backup the OS as I do not have the original Windows 98 OS disk. I also have upgraded the OS to XP Service pack 2 which I do have the upgrade disk for. Can anyone help with this?

Well you can use Windows XP backup feature to back up your current O.S. Go to start>programs>accessories>systems tools> backup. From there you can define what you wish to backup be it your Documents and settings(Profiles) or the entire information stored on your computer. Also you can use Norton Ghost to create backup images. Lastly, you can buy a USB enclosure case for your hard-drive and hook it up to your current computer. From there you can use the backup scheme that I told you.

I have been using Digital Dolly 1.0 for several years to clone hard drives. The only down side I have found is it only makes exact copies. So if you 98 is on a 20 gb hard drive you will have to copy it to a 20 gb partition.

...are you sure the PC will support a drive larger than 32GB ?? most PII's do not.
True Image from Acronis can Clone Hard Drives and make Backup Images.

thanks guys I'll try those methods. How would I find out if my computer will support an 80gb hard drive?
