OS: WinXp HE
CPU/Ram: 768MB
Product: Dell Dimension 2400
Comment:

I have a Dell that was bought with the WinXP HE already installed, is there a way I can backup the WinXP Home Edition to a cd so that I can have a rebootable disc? I don't have the WinXP HE cd or the product key (yes it's a legal copy lol) Any suggestions if I can't back it up to a cd? Thanx!

Look into slipstreaming or imaging a drive!

you can get the COA from the program by using SIW or Belarc advisor

I've been using Norton Ghost for years:

... must admit that I prefer the earlier versions ie ver 10 + ver 11 as it allows using boot up DVD's to restore everything.
I tend to use those versions via a created restore partition now as they run @ least 4 times faster than CD/DVD.
Version 12 is OK and allows back-up restore
points which you also restore to useing boot-up disc if you need to.
I'm using 12 on Vista at the moment and am
interested in Vista's new boot-up method
Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI)

As of today, Vista's new boot-up method
Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) has not been implemented. EFI has more to do with BIOS (hardware). Read the following two articles.

TheDay, you are very wise to think about backing up your system! I agree with Mavis007, use an imaging program like 'Ghost'. They back up a compete partition, so if you have a very large drive it will take a lot of CDs. It might be a good idea to replace your CD drive with a DVD/CD combination drive.

Ya know, I've tried Norton Ghost many different times, and I could not get it to work. I was trying to ghost my 60 gig drive to a 60 gig partition of a 120 gig drive and haven't had any luck yet. I got it running, but sound didn't work, and video was messed up. I tried to reinstall drivers, but no luck.

Old stuff that still works, somewhat....

The only problem I've ever had was when the H\drive had been wiped(encrypt)
... a normal Fdisk n Format sorted that.
Did you use ghost via boot-up method?
