I've decided to try sp2 again and I was trying to find a simple backup set for my docs and settings. I know sp2 will create a restore point, but the last time I tried this on this machine was just after I built it, and there was some incompatibility issue that caused me to reformat the hd. Back then all I had on the drive was XP and acrobat, now there's a lot more. Does anyone know if file and settings is the way to go, or should I go old school copy to disks(cd)?

What do you mean? Can't you just do a backup of your computer with Microsoft's built in backup tool?

Image your drive. Norton Ghost or Drive Image (also Symantec) will do the job for you. If something goes wrong then just restore the image. Better that Microsoft backup, system restore or trying to back up to disks.
