Get Norton Ghost and make an image on DVD(s).

Borrow an xp cd and copy it. A copy on a dvd from the active O/S won't boot and install the O/S.

Ghost will make a bootable DVD or DVD set that will write an EXACT copy of your partition back on the drive if you need to.

Ghost is a great idea, but's it's pretty darn handy to have a whinedoz reinstallating disk.

If you can't do anything else, see if there is an \I386 folder on your hard drive, and copy (burn) that to a Cd

Agreed it will make a bootable copy of the existing O/S but you may need to do a system repair or a reinstall at some future date.

I still vote for Acronis:

I guess the best way is to create bootable media (CD or DVD) and save system partition image (also on DVDs or CDs or on your HDD).

I tried Acronis True Image a couple of months ago (version 9) and on the first attempt to restore, it bombed. The C: partition became free space and I had to remove the drive, put it in a USB caddy, and create a new C: partition using WINXP on another computer. I was then able to use Ghost to reimage the partition. This made me hinky about using True Image any more.

Hm.. very strange
I heard about some difficulties with 9 version but personally I upgraded successfully and haven't had problems.. Anyway IMHO TI8 was one of the best imaging solutions ever exist. TI9 becomes basically a backup and imaging solution now rather than an imaging solution alone.

I spoke with Acronis and they will send version 10. They wouldn't send me version 8.
