Can anyone help me with this about:blank problem. My homepage is about:blank. My Mcafee virus scan says it deleted the backdoor-bdd trojan but it keep popping up saying a new file has been infected by backdoor-bdd. I also still have no access to my Microsoft office programs. Here is my hijackthis log. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Thank you so much for your replies. I ran sypbot search and destroy. Also on the removal process for about:blank I cannot find the files that page tells me to delete. Here is my new hijackthis log, not sure if there were any changes. Any other ideas would be appreciated. thanks

The problem I still have is Macfee still pops up non stop saying it has detected a backdoor-bdd trojan file. It is a new .exe fiel every time it pops up. Also, my office programs are not accessable. I am having the same problem but for some reason some of the solutions posted above will not work. Because I can't pay for that one download. And I couldn't find the registry files that the other site was talkin about. But I do have the hijackthis log - but I won't post that until it is wanted -

Now, please reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files:
Click Start. Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab.

Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

Now, please boot into Safe Mode. Here is how:
Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.
To return to normal mode just restart your computer as you normally would.

In safe mode:

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present).
You may also delete these files by clicking start > search and searching for the .exe/.dll.

Now you can restart the computer normally.

You seem to been have infected by CoolWebSearch. Follow these steps to ensure you are CWS free.

1. Go to http://www.blue.net/helpdesk/tools/CWShredder.exe .

2. Save the file to your desktop.

3. When the download finishes, double-click on the CWShredder icon on your desktop.

*** If you get an error message which says that there is a missing DLL file, go to http://www.blue.net/helpdesk/tools/vbrun60sp5.exe .

Save the program to your desktop.

When download finishes, double-click the icon.

Say Yes you want to install the program.

When installation finishes, say Yes when it asks you to restart the computer.

When the computer comes back up, double-click the CWShredder icon again.

This should resolve this issue. ***

4. Push the Check For Update button.

5. If an update is found, push the button that says Download and Open the Update.

6. Push the Fix button.

7. When scan completes, push the Exit button.

Please run HijackThis again and post a fresh log, just so I can make sure that all the malware was deleted according to plan.

try to solve the problem using the program adware away. i think that you have something that it´s called about:blank hijacker. i have had the same problem as you (i was infected on december, 19th). adware away has been good for me. run the program the times it was necessary until it was deleted, i needed to do it three or four times. i have used also ad-aware and xoftspy to fix completely the problem.
until now my pc is oK
