back ground memory

You mention Memory, but do not say how much RAM memory you have.

Go here--- http://h18000.www1.hp.com/cpq-count...
then enter in your exact Model name, and number,
then tick what information you want to know,
then proceed from there.

You may find the Specifications List of what's in your computer.

Windows HELP says
dynamic-link library (DLL)
An operating system feature that allows executable routines (generally serving a specific function or set of functions) to be stored separately as files with .dll extensions. These routines are loaded only when needed by the program that calls them.

Many programs use them. If you think any could be Malware,
then do this ---
Most Virus and Spyware scans are likely to work better in Windows Safe-Mode.

Compaq notebooks don't support 40gig of ram. You must be referring to the hard drive.

Leroy you should consider getting a Computers for Dummies book so you will know what is what with a computer. If you continue to embark on the path you are on you will trash your notebook.

Only things you should be doing is...
run disk cleanup from the Accessories/system tools menu
I check everything except compress files.
run defrag from the same menu.

Mouse lags indicate software load on the cpu. Make sure you are using antispyware and antivirus, update them and run them.

There is no insult when people suggest Computers for Dummies.
The are such books that are in the Dummy catagory.

I have one called DOS for Dummies.
