avi, ffdshow, crashes

hello,
any avi file i try to open , wmp says codec not founded, etc, so i can´t watch but just ear sound.. So i installed ffdshow codecs, , but now every time i try to watch an avi windows crashs and reiniciate , i tried with wmp , media player classic, vlc and the ffdshow codecs (latest and previous versions) .. :(
any help?

ok, problem resolved, after instaling many video and audio codecs and nothing make a different , i installed again my graphics card drivers and it worked.
you can delet theis message if you want or leave here if someone have the same problem, thanks anyway !!

so strange, doesn´t work again, can´t see any avi. files, it crashes the computer, tried to reinstal card drivers again, no luck, but i remeber seeing many avi files in this computer before .....

thanks, i already tried those codecs too, no luck either , already unistall everything ( codecs and drivers), installed again, the same.
i see the player rezising to play the avi but then computer freezes, no mouse, no control+alt+del, no video, but the sound still play, after a while reboots alone. I leave it like that and remain far from .avi files, when i really need it i guess i will have to install xp again.

... go to Control Panel-> System-> Advanced-> Startup and Recovery-> uncheck "automatically restart"

... if you cannot get to this screen due to reboots, try booting into safe mode and try it there.

... tapping F8 key as pc fires up (Safe Mode)
