Mine has not worked properly for several days and I have not been able to get any updates. Thanks

You get a message that there is not an internet connection. You can go to their site www.grisoft.com and scroll down the page to version(where it says minimum required version), how to tell your version is to open avg antivirus, go to help at top and pick program info. Anyway download the file to a place you will remember and then go back to the avg and to service at the top and pick update. When a box opens pick to update from a file. It should take care of it from there. When I am saying AVG I don't mean the control center I mean the full program. I don't know if its their website thats not working for the auto update or everyone downloaded and installed a bad upgrade to the program but mine does this also.

When downloading updates from the AVG site save said updates to C:\ProgramFiles\Grisoft\AVG6\UPDATE
assuming AVG6 is installed to C:\.
Then run AVG Anti-Virus and the update will be installed.

Thanks to another member in another forum, this solution worked for me:

Check your AVG folder (default at C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6) for a file named URL.INI with following content :

[SERVER_NAME]
1=free.grisoft.cz

[SERVER_URL]
1=http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/60/fe
Actual URL=1

Change it to :

[SERVER_NAME]
1=www.grisoft.com

[SERVER_URL]
1=http://www.grisoft.com/softw/60/fe
Actual URL=1

I made the changes to the url.ini file but I still can't connect to the internet via the Free AVG program. I can connect to the internet via Internet Explorer, but I would prefer to do the automtaic updates rather than going to the web site and manually downloading.
I installed this on a Windows 95 machine. It worked ok on another Windows 95 machine. Any other ideas? The dialogue says, "An automatic connection to the internet could not be established...."

The dialogue "An automatic connection to the internet could not be established...." was the same message I was getting before I made the changes to the URL.INI file. After making the changes to the INI file AVG worked fine. The only other suggestion I can make it D/L and reinstall AVG.

sodak...
thank you thank you thank you.
Solution forwarded to many users of AVG who are thanking you just as I am.
It was getting to be a chore downloading the updates manually from the site.

I am having this same problem with the "not connected to the internet" deal. I have tried going to the grisoft home page to maually download the files, but I am being forwarded to a different site that says:

Your Web service is now running.
You do not currently have a default Web page established for your users. Any users attempting to connect to your Web site from another machine are currently receiving an Under Construction page. Your Web server lists the following files as possible default Web pages: default.htm,default.asp,index.htm,iisstart.asp. Currently, only iisstart.asp exists.

To add documents to your default Web site, save files in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\.

I get the same thing when I go to ANY virus software site, which tells me I have something on my pc not allowing me to get any help. Does anyone know of this? PLEASE HELP!!!!

OK Now I re-did the url.ini file and when I try to get the update, I get the following error message:

Server mismatch!

It seems that one of the necessary files is missing. Please report to webmaster@grisoft.com

I emailed the webmaster, but who knows how long it will be before I hear from them. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I don't knowif you've seen this but it got me back on track yesterday. It is another change to the .ini file. You have to close then reopen AVG for the change to take effect.
