AVG problem with media player

I recently posted here re a problem with media player which I was having and got no useful response. I have now tracked it down to AVG6 Antivirus from Grisoft: when AVG is installed, the ‘play all’ option in music folders does not work. I have confirmed this on a Dell Inspiron 2500 and a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo MS810 both running XP pro 2600.
Does anyone have a fix- I would prefer not to reinstall McAfee- or can anyone recommend another free antivirus?
