Hi, all Avast Home Edition users.
I removed Norton AV then installed and registered Avast. I restarted my computer and it did an automatic scan at bootup on the blue Windows screen. It said it had found a virus and to press 1 to delete it. However, I had to finally press reset as the sytem seemed to be locked and nothing would respond.
After bootup I scanned the system again and it located three viruses which I deleted. The virus siren gave me a fright the first time it sounded! I had the sound up too loud!

You may want to turn off system restore, then scan, then turn on system restore again. I use avast and it works great!
If you need a simple solution, try mine. I try to give advise on things that have happened to my PC. Changes in registry can be FATAL!

Hi, yankanuk. Thank you for your comments.
Avast did another scan at bootup today and I got this message:
File C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT\00004720.exe is infected by Win32:Trojan-gen. {UPX!}
As the system was locked on the blue Windows screen again and required a reset, I could not delete the offending file.
I haven't worked out how to stop the scan at bootup yet.

Hi again, yankanuk,
After reading Avast's help file I have now cancelled the scan at bootup and learnt that a keyboard connected via USB won't respond, hence my apparent lockup. I further realize that maybe I shouldn't have deleted those virus files as they may have been system files. Another narrow escape!
