Hi, all.
I have read much on this forum about the respective merits of Avast and AVG. My Norton sub runs out in two weeks time so I have to make up my mind, although I think I am leaning towards Avast, in fact I have actually downloaded Avast and am all ready to install it.
From what I've read on the Web page Avast has to be re-registered every year, is that correct?
Ted.

Even if your subscription has run out, you can still get the definitions here...

Greetings:
For what it's worth, I use AVG and Avast.
AVG is my primary AV program. It is set to run in the background constantly and monitor the system.
I manually run a scan with Avast periodically.
I update both at least a couple of times a week.
I haven't had Avast very long and have not had to re-register it. But I remember seeing something in its documentation about re-registering. I don't remember the time period.

Hi, efs2
For what it's worth, I use AVG and Avast.
Do they conflict with each other? I was told to remove Norton before installing AVG or Avast.
Ted.

I changed to Avast! from Norton and then AVG. I found Norton as bloatware bogging down my PC and when I had AVG, it quit giving me up-dates, si I switched to Avast! which I feel is the best of all...free up-dates as you surf the net. You are requested to renew your free license once a year and it stays free. HTH
If you need a simple solution, try mine. I try to give advise on things that have happened to my PC. Changes in registry can be FATAL!

Greetings:
No, AVG and Avast do not conflict with each other, at least not now.
I think I had some trouble initially because Avast was by default set to run constantly in the background and monitor the system, like AVG. So I was forced to make some adjustments. I can't remember if there was a way to make those changes within the program/interface, or I had to modify a registry entry so that it would not start up when the system booted.
Either way, it was something simple.

FWIW. I have 2 PCs, one uses AVG and the other uses Avast. IMHO, the latter is the superior program. It has a whole lot more features and it gets a new updade every couple days.

This is from my experience. If you need a simple solution, try mine. I try to give advise on things that have happened to my PC. Changes in registry can be FATAL!

I've been using AVG on a few systems for quite a while, I've had pretty good experiences with it.
I was once known as PC Freak. I always hated that name.

Hi, all.
Many thanks for all your comments. Over the past few months I've learnt so much from you helpful people.
Ted.
