what DVD software are you using to play DVD's?

also, try going into windows explorer, then right click on your DVD drive. click on properties, then on the "Autoplay" tab. from the dropdown box, choose "DVD movie", then choose what you want to happen when you put the DVD in.

Sorry Martyn, it's powerDVD.
I have tried the properties bit, but as soon as I have done it, it defaults back to nothing?

hmmm, weird. try looking in the options of powerDVD, there should be a setting to autoplay DVDs. if not, uninstall PowerDVD then reinstall it, this should put the associations back.
