Hi,
I have an HP Windows XP SP2 CD that came with my laptop. Only one problem - a few months back I dropped it on the floor and rolled my computer chair over it!! Luckily I had copied all the files into a folder on the laptop. Well, now I need to reinstall my OS so I copied the files onto a CD, and now I won't boot. The Autorun file IS on the CD, but I don't know how to enable it. I called HP to ask if there was any way I could get a replacement, even if I sent this broken one back as proof, but the said no, it would cost $23 for a new one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Well, you could make a bootable CD with the files you copied on it. I suspect the problem is the CD itself isn't bootable and you need it to be. Autorun is more for when your PC is up and running and you stick it in the drive. If you want to take a look at making a bootable CD just search that string in google (bootable CD) or search "El torito CD".
If you have a floppy drive, you could make a DOS based bootdisk (go to www.bootdisk.com and download a 98 or 98SE floppy). Boot with it, enable CD-ROM support and once booted switch to the CD and start the install manually from the CD.

Google for a program called "simple slipper"
follow the instructions and you will have a better installation disc than what Microsoft or HP hands out...you can remove all the garbage they want you to install.

Thanks all - I think I will try the "simple slipper" proggy.
I could set my burning software to "Make Bootable", IF I had CD burning software - I use the integrated winxp software - no option in there :) but thanks!!
