Hi all.

Ever since I reinstalled Windows XP Pro, the little autoplay menu has stopped working, and instead, every time I insert a CD of any sort (except for those with an autorun.inf file) it just shows the files in Windows Explorer. I've right-clicked on the drive in Windows Explorer and gone to its Autoplay properties and selected "Prompt me each time to choose an action" for all content types, but it just ignores it.

Thanks a lot for your help.

I had the same problemas you. Espeicially hard for my kids games. Delete the CDROM from System in your Control Panel and the reboot. It worked for me...

Thanks a lot for your help Terry. I tried what you suggested, but Autoplay still isn't working. It's not just that the little menu isn't popping up either - when I right-click on the CD-ROM in Windows Explorer, there's no Autoplay option like on my other computer. I tried disabling and then re-enabling Autoplay using TweakUI, but that didn't work either.

Also, when I insert an audio CD, the icon in Windows Explorer is wrong.

Any suggestions?

This is how to disable Autoplay. Check if if you have it set to 0. Change to 1 then.

To disable autoplay, use regedit.exe and change the follow registry setting:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom
change "autorun" to 0 (zero)

Becareful (you better save your registry before making any changes)

Good luck

Try this. Make sure you have shell hardware detection started and set on automatic in your Administrative Tools > Services.
