Hi,

I was wondering if there is a way to set the computer to shut off by itself every day or if there is some add on that i can use to shut the computer off 1 hour from me leaving it?

If your install was correct and XP identified the bios ability then you could enable hibernate.

Hibernate would power down after so many minutes but it would also make it faster booting back up. It saves your desktop and then powers down.

You could set all your computer stuff including wall warts on a power strip and actually press the power button too. It would secure your system from lightning and save energy.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

... try this: http://www.xp-smoker.com/installati... zip

... extract then go to control panel> Scheduled Tasks "add Scheduled Task" blah blah... and point it to the file "shutdown.exe"

... you could tell Scheduled Tasks to run command prompt and run a simple shutdown code @ specific time.... but I find they do'nt always work with updates etc!

... ps... I use the above program without "s/tasks"

Scroll down 30 posts from yours, look for helen aries, she got a good suggestion from Ed in Texas. I also use that little free program. It works fine.
