Auto Play Keeps coming on.Plz Help!

Specs: Win XP SP2, 800/512
Have been trying to help a friend with a problem that just won't go away. I believe at one time she started to install a program and the install didn't finish. Of course she can't remember which program it was.

Now a screen comes up saying Auto Play with a flashlight

I've gone into msconfig and turned off everything in the start menu. Made it a selective start. When I did I thought it would stop coming up but it still does. Still see the sign saying Autoplay. A sign comes up saying "Windows is currently in the middle of a long operation. Either wait for the operation to finish or cancel it before you quit windows.

I've purchased Registry Mechanic and installed it thinking I might be able to correct the problem. It did find lots of problems which were fixed but this problem still continues.

I would sure appreciate any suggestions on how this problem can be corrected. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Use the registry and click through to here.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER then:
Software then:
Microsoft then:
Windows then:
Current Version then:

Now you will see Run / Run- / RunOnce / RunService / RunservicesOnce

Check these folders, you might not have all the Run folders there, but in the Run folders will be any app that starts up with said user.

Follow the same path in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Use caution. Good Luck.

I'm not "uncomfortable" working in the registry.

Not sure what you mean by " any app that starts with said user"

How do I "follow the same path" in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

Thanks for your help. Just need some clarification.

Just expand all the same folders untill you come across the "run" folders. Starting with the LOCAL_MACHINE as opposed to the USER.
