I am planning to switch from Cable to DSL in my area, as the local DSL provider has higher speeds that the local Cable provider. I wanted to know if there is a way that XP, on boot, will automatically dial up via DSL and connect to the internet?

Yes, there is. Just create a shortcut to your DSL connection in network properties and put it in the startup menu. Also make sure that the DSL connection is set to save your password.
