I have:
- Windows XP Home edition
- Verizon DSL Westell modem
- IE6

I've been searching for a while for a solution... and I even looked around for previous threads here but most of the replies have not really solved my problem yet.

I'm posting here (and I hope I'm posting in the right section).

I've been using an MSN browser for a while but one day (about three weeks ago) it just decided not to log me in. It made attempts and said it could not connect because I had connection problems -- only problem is, my connection was fine (IE worked fine, well sort of but I'll get to that).

I started using IE6 -- but my hotmail did not work, I was at the passport login page but once I entered my CORRECT information, it turned into a 'cannot display page.'

Also, when checking certain sites that require certain authentication like banking sites, amazon, ebay, etc... it shows up as a 'cannot display page.'

- Restarted my computer

- I've cleared my cookies, temp files and folders, history...

- Checked my Internet security settings

- Fixed my firewalls

- Checked my proxy

- Repaired my local network connection

- Did some interesting thing with setting my MTU with this 1490 thing or something...

- Released and renewed my IP address

*sigh*

A friend suggested that I backup all my files and reboot my whole computer, I'd rather not...

This happened to me once, for some reason IE6 can lose its cipher strength and then no matter what you do you can't view any websites requiring a secure connection. Goto to Help, About Internet Explorer, and if it says Cipher Strenth: 0-bit, then that is your problem.

The best way to solve it is to download IE6 SP1 from Microsoft and that will basically reinstall Internet Explorer. It worked for me.

Good luck!

I checked it out and it's at 128-bit but thanks for the suggestion!
