The only card I know that works with XP right now is soundblaster. I pulled my Philips Acoustic Edge and replaced it with a SB Live and all is well.

go to www.vortexofsound.com and download win2000 drivers.

I have the 8830 vortex, xp installs it's microsoft drivers making my sound volume lower than normal. To fix this problem I installed the vortex drivers for win2000.

Also be sure to go here http://www.vortexofsound.com/techhelp/th-v2a80.htm to fix any sound dropouts and cutoffs.

I got a Aureal Vortex 2, it detected it... but no sound. I uninstalled it and installed the driver which wasn't approved yet... but I did it anyways and it works.

Sorry...

What I ment to say was I got the drivers from the CD which came with the soundcard.
It isn't approved by Microsoft, but I did the driver change anyways and the sound worked.

I have a Aureal Vortex AU8810 chip set. I just put xp on it and the sound cut out after it first boots up. I uninstalled the drivers and put in the 2000 driver from the vortex of sound page. It would not take those drivers. it wanted to use the drivers it was using. Long story short i have no sound. Any idea out there? E-mail me it you do please.

I have the Aureal Vortex SQ2500,

http://www.vortexofsound.com/techhelp/th-v2a80.htm to fix any sound dropouts and cutoffs.

Follow the step by step instructions, sound works... but has side of effect of locking system.

This is what I have tested it to be so far.

i guess were all going to have to wait for microsoft to realize they did a terrible job of writing drivers and wait for them to fix it :-(

The fix worked for me too (Micron PIII 733 system with an Aureal Vortex 2 8830).

Installed Win XP Professional two days ago and sound didn't work. Sound works fine now.

I used wpcr-edit and wpcr-set to fix my sound (PIII and vortex 8830 driver) in xp. I got the way do do it from: http://www.vortexofsound.com/techhelp/th-v2a80.htm
But the first time I tried this I went quite quickly through the steps and now I’m not sure I did everything wright. Especially because my sound still doesn’t work. My question is now, when I go through the steps another time (and correct this time) will it work. I tried this but when I get to change the hex value from 80 to FF the hex value is 00 instead of FF. Also when I change it to FF and choose to aplly the changes it still remains 00 (maybe I have to clear the registery first before editing it again but I don’t know how). Is this why my sound still doesn’t work or do you have any other solution for my problem. Please help because I’ve been trying to fix it for hours and it still won’t work.

I have an Aureal Vortex SQ2500 (based on 8830 chipset), I followed the instructions and I get the same results as everyone else, but my opinion is what we get is just a pseudo-surround sound (using 2ch ->4 spk's option under AC97), and I think the point to use a surround card is to have 4 independent speakers, isn't it (especially in games). As someone said there is no true solution for this issue. I am thinking about buying a new sound card.
