Trying to understand you;
vcr: video out+ audio out (correct???)

video goes into the pc(through a video capturer or video card)
not the issue...

audio in through line in or audio capturer???

which audio drivers in your system??????

OS or machine details????

vcr audio/video out to box on wall
box connected to pc and lcd projector with appropriate cables
lcd is ceiling mounted and no sound cable was run from it to the box on the wall
sound can be heard from lcd, but not loud enough with students in the room
how can I hook the audio from the vcr to a set of external speakers?

depending on the box, which connectors are there?? (phono, rca, jack, scart??)

directly from the vcr(instead of connecting into the box connect it into an amplifier or pc audio in)

or vcr--->>> to box as it is
Then at the other end from the box into pc audio in or into an amplifier....
