Run a full scan/checkdisk routine; and let it find/fix... Itf it fixes the problem.. then perhaps consider a new drive in due course...?

Less likely... RAM may be going down on one stick at least...

Test this by reducing to a single stick (min = 128Meg) and see if it happens with one (or more) and not with others...?

Actually in XP it's called chkdsk (Scandisk is the olde name for it in W2K...)

The last link is a very detailed explanation of all the options it allows...

Hi, how do you lock a disk?

mmm - why on earth would you wish to lock a HD?

Seem to recall that was an event in days or '98/NT and not since?

Strongly encourage you to keep things simple.... Safeguard data; run the chkdsk routine...

Safeguard data - first. Do this by copying all those important (I wouldn't like to lose this "stuff" files...) to optical-media and verify the copies will play on at least one other working system if possible...

Then run chkdsk routine (as per links posted earlier...).

Useful and good practice to duplicate/copy data etc. to optical media (and/or another - external HD) - on a regular basis...; this to avoid sudden loss of it all for whatever reason...
