Audio not synchron with video

I just reinstalled windows xp and when I play games, the audio isn't totally synchron with the video (it is a bit behind) although my computer is much better than the minimum requirements.
I have an ALS-4000 sound card and a 3d Prophet Geforce 2 MX if that has something to do with it...?!

Computerspecs:
AMD Athlon 1Ghz
256 MB Ram

Can somebody give me advise because some people I know are also dealing with this problem...

If the video is behind the audio then it's prob realted to screen resoltion/color depth, try switching to a smaller resoultion (800x600) and less color depth (16 bit instead of 32 bit) I have simlar probs when watching large videos because my resoultion is at 1600 x 1200 and is to much for processor.
