My computer was having alot of serious problems so I had to do a full resore of my operting system. Everything was loaded back on it but my audio driver is gone. I used all the CDs that were given to me when i got the computer. I called dell and they said that I could have messed up my config but since my system was out of warrenty they won't help unless a pay a high fee. I tried to download a driver with no luck, my computer is not recognizing my sound card now. i have no idea what to do to fix it. I am good at moving around on a computer but not good at the technical side of things. Please somebody help!

Sometimes if you do a custom windows update instead of express will may find the drivers listed to the left side under Software,Optional.

I suggest going to the Dell site. Use your model number and search for the driver.

"I tried to download a driver with no luck" doesn't tell us much.
Did you find it?
Were you able to download it?
Were you able to install it?
What error messages are you getting?

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!
Sorry, I do not check for private messages

Dell has drivers for all of their systems ever made. As mentioned above, go to www.support.dell.com and just put in the model or service tag, choose the operating system and everything is right there.

thank you for all the great comments. I downloaded AID32 that i got somewhere on this website. I found my drivers they are legacy audipo drivers, my computer says they are working fine. My sound card I also found out is on my motherboad, i checked my bios and my sound is set to on. But when i go into my sound and audio proerties it says no audio device. The drop down is greyed out for me to chosse anything. my computer had windows xp home on it but when i wiped it clean i installed windows xp pro on it. i do not know if this makes a difference as i am not very good at computers. i am way over my head on this one. When I go to my volume settings i get a error message that states no audio mixer devices are available go to add remove programs to add a device. So do i need a driver or something else, i tried to rollback too but it said that i do not have it backed up. I have no idea what i am doing, I am just trying to learn from this website. If anyone needs more info let me know, i am not sure of what terms to say. Thank you everybody agian.

Make sure your audio is enabled in the BIOS/setup (F2 at boot). AS you have already learned, it is on the motherboard, rather than an add in card. If it is, and it is functional, the drivers you should use are on the Dell site. No guarantee that drivers downloaded elsewhere will EVER work correctly. Period!

I want to iterate the same problem on my mom and dad's PC...

'no audio mixer'

is your audio device on modem not motherboard?

did all of the above and still no luck. the driver is functioning perfectly according to windows. the options to actually use any recording/sound device are disabled because of this... Dell isn't telling us the whole story here or we haven't explained everything. I will check, but I don't think there is an on board audio device. I think my situation is the audio device is on the modem for voice communications.

all this said, there is still some conflict that is unresolved....
