Oops, my bad. It won't tell you the driver if one isn't loaded for it.

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Try Everest Home Edition (for free but you've got to Google for it)) and then to to pick it up, if the Fujitsu site doesn't help with it.

You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users

I could locate this from an HP site. It might work in your Fujitsu Laptop but not sure. If desperate you may try.

Personally, I would backup the entireRegistry and Save on Desktop just in case I run into any trouble after such trails so that I can Restore the Registry to the previous status. I make the Registry Export BEFORE I make such trials.
Here is the link to Driver download:

Well it appears you did not go to the link I gave you the first time.

When you ask for help on this forum give the full details of your computer, ie model number.

Now try again here and click on c1020...

I downloaded the AC97 Compliant CODEC: Conexant Cx20468 driver, loaded it on but nothing. I have used Everest home edition as suggested by GX1 Man which was pretty good. According to that my device is a VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller, so I have gone onto and downloaded that driver. I have loaded it on, it works fine with my laptop but i dont have any sound coming from the speakers. I have had a play with the options and setting but still no good. Am i doing something wrong??

After you installed the latest VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller driver from , did you check the Device Manager?

What is seen in + Audio video and games Controllers?

Since you have tried to install other drivers, I am wondering if you could have corrupted the drivers.

If you have got the Right Drivers saved , I would suggest the following:

1. Start the Computer in Safe Mode
2. Open Device Manager> + Sound, video, and game controllers
3.Uninstall everything EXCEPT audio codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers and Video Codecs
4. Close Device Manager
5. Restart the Computer.
6. When the new hardware found message comes direct the wizard to the downloaded driver for installation

Thanks for your help you have been a life saver. I did what you suggested but It didn't work, it must have been the wrong driver that I was using. Anyhow I done a little research on google and found a full spec list for my Fujitsu lifebook c1020 (see below)

. Intel Pentium 4.0 mobile CPU 1.7 GHz w/ 512k L2 cache
• VIA P4M266 chipset
• Two PCMCIA slots
• Two USB ports (VIA 83C572 Controller)
• Firewire (IEEE 1394 OHCI)
• RealTek 8139 10/100BaseTX Network Interface
• Conexant AC97 HSF Modem
• VIA VT8233 AC97 Audio Controller
• Floppy Drive
• RS-232 Serial Port
• Parallel Port
• 20GB "TOSHIBA MK 2018GAS" ATA100 HDD (very noisy)
• S3 ProSavage DDR 32M Graphic Card (M266)

As you can see from this spec my audio controller is a VIA VT8233 AC97 Audio Controller. I then went onto the VIA Technology website and downloaded the VT8233 driver and it works great.

Thanks again for your help.
Kind rgds

I was delighted to see that you finally succeeded to fix your Fujitsu LifeBook C1020 Notebook's Sound problem. Good for you:-)

This will hopefully help someone else with the same or even similar Soud problems from lack of Proper drivers and how to troubleshoot.
I hope the readers of this thread will also realize the importance of providing EXACT details of the Computer in troubleshoot.

Since the same company could have sold lots of different Models and Versions, calling a computer just by the company name (like "My Dell" or "My Compaq" etc or 'incomplete name' "Fujitsu LifeBook" for "Fujitsu Life Book 1020 Note book PC") does not help; and it can even prolong the troubleshoot by further questions or wrong assumptions by those who try to offer help.
