Having a little problem when attempting to use the site search function. IE seems to hang while loading the page. Possibly relates to the advertising content of the page. My Search parameter was "update Adaware" as I have been having a problem trying to download/instal the latest reference file using XP SP2 and wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem.
The page being opened is as follows
http://computing.net/cgi-bin/AT-search.cgi?mode=concept&search=update+adaware&forum=windowsXP&sp=sp&x=22&y=7

The progress bar was showing the following

Downloading data http://itxt.vibrantmedia.com/intellitxt/front.asp?IPID=7&snarf=1&refurl=http://computing.net/cgi-bin/AT-search

I don't know if this is a sign of a problem with my browser or with the ad link on the page. Pressing the Back button on the browser simply refreshed the page and it continued to hang. Pressing Back button multiple times enabled return to a previously viewed forum page outside the "search" area.

Don't know about your search issue, I did see a post a while ago that claimed that doing a search on this site locked up his or her computer.
Adaware has been an issue here for a few days. I couldn't update mine either, going to their website and downloading Adaware SE for free seemed to do the trick. I think it's the new version.

Hi... I tried searching various things here and all works well; I know this doesn't really help you at all though....
I am also using Adaware SE, and I am running SP-2 in case that matters at all.
I have no difficulties on the forum at all.
I also tried my "back" button, and that is fine too.
Wish I could offer some help, but I'm baffled why it's giving you the troubles...

Goodnight, take care.

Richard59, dunno the answer to your search problem. I can shed a little light on your Ad-Aware issue. Ad-Aware announced recently that they would discontinue support for their original program and ONLY offer updates for SE. Suspect that is what you are encountering. FWIW, my SE updates just fine.

Thanks for the headsup Ed. Just installed the SE edition and back working now.
Still don't know what went wrong with the search. Am looking at installing firefox as a browser but will wait the two days for the formal release. Have read only favourable things about it so will give it a go.

Thanks for the above post. I've been using Firefox for the past 6-8 months, and am using v1.0PR. I didn't know they were coming out with a "final" version, but I'll upgrade as soon as it's available. An "almost great" browser, but still lots better than IE, IMHO.

I had exactly the same problem: When searching this site where the results were showing but the screen was freezing. This stopped me clicking on the results. As with Richard59 my progress bar froze loading 'intellitxt' etc. I'm sure I didn't get this problem 'till I downloaded SP2!
I got round it by updating the 'hosts' file. Instructions can be found here:
www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/120375.html
I had to add 4 URL's to my host file. Now the green underlined links show but don't freeze my screen.
