Hey there, I was just having a little trouble and was hoping for suggestions. I was playing UT2004 and in the middle of a online game the screen froze on the current frame. I then hit alt+tab and the screen went black but the mouse was still visible. I then went through the proper keys to turn off the computer (knowing that explorer.exe was still runing) I hit windows key up and the letter u to turn off the machine. it shut down properly however, when I started it again it displayed the windows loading screen and the screen returned to black with the mouse still visible. the welcome screen along with current username never appeared. I then went through the same process only to restart it this time. I hit F8 and went into safe mode. everything just fine there. the monitor driver is correct, the ATI driver and control panel are okay. I tried setting default settings in the control panel then restarted into normal windows (not safe mode) and same black screen. (I also checked the motherboard/chipset drivers)My next step would be to un-install the ATI catalyst (Ver. 5.5 btw) and re-install. if this does bot work any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
