I have noticed alot of posts on here for TV-out problems with nvidia and ATI cards. Mostly because I was searching for solutions to MY problems. I had a *ucking pile of them, but just now got them all working. Hope the info below can help some of you. I am running a P4 at 1.6G and 1.0GB RAM with an HP F50 LCD monitor hooked up via a DVI cable. The video card is an ATI Radeon 9000 128MB with TV-out. I hooked it up as the manual said, s-video cable to composite out with both the VCR and computer off. I turned them both on, VCR first. After the boot up, the screen on my TV was something awful. I thought maybe it was the VCR so I hooked the composite end of the cable directly to the TV. Same thing. Fought with it forever and read a post that maybe the cable was too long. I brought home another VCR and old TV from work and hooked it up within six feet of my PC. Did the same start-up and Voila!! picture. I hooked up my other, longer cable and no picture. However, it was a split screen. I had my main desktop on my PC with all icons, etc. However, the TV only had the background. I noticed I could move the mouse pointer from my PC all the way to my right (facing the monitor) and it would show up on the tv. That isn't what I wanted. I wanted an exact copy of what I was seeing on my PC screen on the tv. After some more swearing and cursing, I read deep in the help files provided by ATI about clone mode. In the ATI control panel, when you get to display, settings advanced, two monitors show up, labelled 1 and 2. Highlight number two and UN-CHECK the box that says "extend my desktop onto this monitor." At that point, your TV should have exactly the same display as your PC. Now another hitch. If you want to watch movies on your TV, you HAVE to go into Display properties, settings and highlight 1. Then click on advanced. Under the next screen, you will click on displays. Under the TV icon display, click the first button to make it primary. that automatically switches the PC display to secondary. That way, you can watch and record a movie on your TV/VCR, but no picture will show up on your PC. You have to switch it back to watch on your PC. If you have any questions regarding this particular card or any tv-out problems you may have, feel free to e-mail. I might be able to help. |
