I was listening to Windows media player when the sound garbled and then ceased. I look up to see a stop error message stating the folowing:

***STOP: 0X0000008E([some othernumbers])

***ati3duag.dll- adress BFA7D000, Datestamp 4240d8b0

I then restarted. I then saw my two monitors do their self test, I saw my eMachines boot up logo, then the screens went black displaying only my cursor. I could tell i was at my profile selection screen because after some blind clicking I heard the windows log on sound. Then, my second monitor fickered, and then went white, as if trying to display the restore active desktop screen, the other monitor stayed black. my cursor still functioned normaly, but i couldn't see the desktop or anything else. Although i could tell it was trying to be displayed.

My best guess is that some part of my third party drver had failed. What i am asking is, does anyone know how to de-activate my third party driver before logging on?

Does anyone have any better suggestions?

I dont mind telling you that a school project is dependent on all your advice.

Please advise...
Sam

I suspect the video card (adapter). You could try reseating it, if it's a card.

Try safe mode.

Thanks for the prompt response. Although reseating the card didn't help,i did go into the BIOS and activate the diagnostic statrup screen and go in safe mode. I then did a system restore, and it fixed the problem.

So thanks again ham30. Im going to update my driver now.
