Hello please help me
I have a
Sony VAIO PCV RX650
Radeon ATI 9800 PRO 2.0 AGP 4X 256Mb SDRAM/SGRAM
2x512Mb PC2100 DDR 187 Pin DIMM Non-ECC RAM
Pentium 4 1.6Ghz Processor
Windows XP SP2
Award 6.0 BIOS 1005
Sony Trinitron Multiscan CPD-100GSWhen i turn on my computer i see vertical corrupted lines on my desktop after the
Windows XP logo boot screenWhen i purchased the Radeon 9800 PRO 256Mb AGP 2.0 x4 i went into safemode
installed the graphics card with Ati catalyst 5.5 drivers. When I booted on my computer after the windows xp logo screen i would see vertical corrupted vertical lines on my desktop and if i do anything.
Yes i cleaned out the drivers, the card has a power source pluged in from the
fan, the bios was last flashed in 2002 and i updated the monitor's drivers also.I have only 1 video card and i checked my computer my CPU, main power fan, video
card fan, harddrive and floppy/DVD-RW drives are pluged in correctly and are
humming like they usually do.I'm thinking the monitor is the cause of my suffering since i was released in
1998.

Perament memory ATA/100 8

there are only two possibilities. Your monitor or your video card. Nothing else would be causing these types of symptoms. If your computer does not display the lines when you first turn it on it is probably your video card, however, it could be a malfunction in your monitors mode switching when you log into windows. Another thing you can do to test it is try it as different Hz frequencys and resolutions to see if that hurts or helps the problem. To know for sure, try a different monitor. Im sure you know someone with a monitor you can borrow for a minute or know someone who knows someone with a monitor you can borrow for a minute if you do not have a second monitor to test it on.
The other possibility is that it in fact IS your video card that is causing the problems. If you can get into safemode and everything is fine it could be because windows uses its base vga driver for your video card and that works. When it trys to use the custom video cards driver and there is something wrong with it that might be why the lines show up at that time. Id make sure you are using a driver that microsoft supplies or at least is microsoft certified. Also, there is a possibility that something is physically wrong with your video card, swap it out to test it for sure. Hope that helps! There are 10 types of people in the world, those who know binary, and those who don't.

Woops left out some details there ><
I boot into safemode everything is perfectly clear as day. I'm able to boot up normally looks perfectly good 5 minutes in then the screen corruption settles in.
I'm thinking it's the power supply since those bas**** at sony didn't give me a seperate cord for my video card's power supply (this cord is also plugged in to my permanent memory harddrive and my floppy drive)
So what do you guys recommend for a power source label on back says about 3 Amps and 120 volts which using ohlms law is about 400-450 watts witch should be enough Ati says 300 watts
That may explain alot =/

My Dad has a Visiontek Xtasy Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB that has the same vertical line problem on bootup. Its a card defect. The PS has 410Watts with just 1HDD and 1CDRW. =(
