I've been having some problems with my FAT32 Maxtor Diamondplus 9 200gb Hard Drive, so I reformatted it under NTFS.

However, there is approx. 61.9Gb 'Missing'.

XP tells me the drive is 189gb big.
I know there is only 59.1gb on the drive, however it says there is 121gb used.

Where are my gigabytes?!

Thanks a lot guys

Sounds like you need at least Service Pack 1 installed. Without it it will only see up to about 137GB. If you want you can just install Service Pack 2 because it has all SP1 updates included but I haven't heard too many good things about SP2 but it's up to you. You have to install one of the two. You can either goto windowsupdate.microsoft.com or just microsoft.com and search for it. Good luck.

you might also want to update your bios for your motherboard depending on how old it is and if installing service pack 1 didn't work. i just installed a 160gb on my msi k7t pro "limited edition" which is like at least three years old. after updating my bios it works just fine. If you have a msi board you can go to their web site and download live update which will pick the exact bios update you need

You're ok as far as the drive size being different from what it said on the box. Windows looks at a gig as being slightly larger than the maker says a gig is. Not to worry, it happens to every drive running windows.

I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid...
