Hi guys, I just bought a TV tuner for my PC.
It is an ASUS P7131 My Cinema , comes in a flashy box with 3 CDs inside, a remote control, all kinds of cables and attachments and so on...
It goes with a software, named "CyberLink Power Cinema".
Problem is that the TV tuner is not working OK.

I tested its TV capabilites using a TV analogue antenna that I took from a TV.
Then I tested its radio capabilities using the FM radio antenna that came with the package.

I noticed the following problems:

1. The TV picture is jagged and moves quite jerky - it feels like the CPU is overloaded.
This is also what CPU Idle reported - overloaded CPU.
Hmm, this is quite strange since my CPU is not too weak - it is 2,7 GHZ, my RAM is quite OK too - 512MB dual channel and my motherboard is ASUS...

2. The TV picture is bad and noisy like it is out of tune - I guess that this is an antenna issue but still...

3. The TV signal on all TV stations is MONO and I can't find a way in the PowerCineam software to manually switch it to Stereo.

4. The Radio signal on all radio stations is MONO too. Same as above.

My questions:
Is this all normal? Is my machine too weak to hadle with this ridiculous PCI tuner or something?

What can cause the CPU overload? Is it that the software is too f*cked up?
I know a guy who runs an ancient 333 MHz AMD and his tuner works just fine (don't know its brand, though, but it sure as f*ck is not craploaded with stuff that could jam his CPU).

Is there a way to make the sound STEREO?

Is there an alternative software or maybe a driver that could help me run my TV tuner flawlessly and without CPU overloads and picture jams?

Thanks!

There is a review that suggests that you should update the driver and use a different software package, but they also reported how they got the card to work. It is at

If you can take it back and find one made by Haupauge . They will work the way they are supposed to . I'm still using the same stereo TV tuner with FM stereo that I bought in like 1997. You pc is more than new enough , i'm running a 933 mghz. machine with ME and it works flawlessly .

You must have a good antenna in a good location and a good antenna connection, or a good cable TV connection, with any TV card.
If you don't, your picture will be crummy on at least some channels, it may be in mono if too weak, you may not be able to get all the stations you're supposed to get or not all may display display well, and your FM may be in mono rather than stereo, if it's capable of stereo, and sometimes the default setting in the tuners software is mono FM. You may need to use a TV cable signal amplifier between the tuner and the cable or the antenna.

Thanks guys.
What about other software apps that would help me watch TV uding my ASUS tuner?
I tried Fly2000 - it seemed to work for awhile (at least it didn't overload my CPU) but then it got messed up and now I can't make it work again. :(
So, are there any other applications that would work with my tuner?

Thanks!

There are only so many makes and models of the main tuner chips on TV cards - e.g. many use Philips chips. You could try downloading drivers for other cards that use the same main chip.

Mine is Philips as well.
I have drivers for it but I need the software that controls the driver and the hardware.
I need something similar to Fly2000.

A "drivers" download is often not just drivers - they often include applications like that.
